Gian Giuseppe Filippi (born 1947) is Professor of History of Art of India at the University of Venice, a position he has held since 1985. He has lectured on Indian art and Indology at institutions including Hull University, the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in New Delhi, and the National Museum Institute, and is director of the Venetian Academy of Indian Studies. His Mrtyu (Concept of Death in Indian Tradition), published by D.K. Printworld, investigates Hindu ideas of death through a study of rites, rituals, and classical literature, drawing on interviews with Indian samnyasins, brahmanas, and persons living near cremation grounds.
