Ghulam Murshid

Ghulam Murshid (1940–2024) was a Bangladeshi scholar, journalist, and former professor of Bengali literature at the University of Rajshahi, who also worked as a radio journalist with the BBC in London and held research positions at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. His research spanned Bengali language and literature, women's studies, and Bengali socio-cultural history, and he published more than twenty books from Bangladesh, India, and the UK. Bengali Culture: Over a Thousand Years is considered a comprehensive account of Bengali cultural history. Murshid received the Bangla Academy Literary Award and the Ekushey Padak for his contributions to scholarship.
