Gautam R Desiraju & Deekhit Bhattacharya

Gautam R. Desiraju is a distinguished structural chemist, a professor at the Indian Institute of Science, and a former President of the International Union of Crystallography, widely recognized for his contributions to the field of crystal engineering. He is a recipient of the Padma Shri. Co-authoring with Deekhit Bhattacharya, Desiraju in Fixing Science in India: A Socio-Economic Prescription surveys the evolution of Indian science from the colonial era to the present. The book critically examines India's developmental models and their impact on scientific progress, arguing that the challenges faced by Indian science have deep social and economic roots, and proposes reforms to strengthen India's scientific and technological foundation for national development and self-reliance.
