Franklin Edgerton

Franklin Edgerton (1885–1963) was a prominent American Indologist and linguist, celebrated for his pioneering work on Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit. He was a professor of Sanskrit and Comparative Philology at Yale University. His monumental two-volume work, Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit Grammar and Dictionary, along with the Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit Reader, were seminal contributions that significantly advanced the study of this unique linguistic form found in early Mahayana Buddhist texts.
