F. Grimal

François Grimal is a distinguished French Sanskritist and Indologist known for his extensive work on Indian grammatical traditions. A member of the École française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO) since 1986, he served as head of its Pondicherry centre and as director of the Department of Indology at the French Institute of Pondicherry. He is the principal architect of the monumental collaborative project, पाणिनीयव्याकरणोदाहरणकोश: (Pāṇinīyavyākaraṇodāharaṇakośaḥ), or Paninian Grammar Through its Examples. This multi-volume dictionary catalogues approximately 40,000 examples from classical commentaries to illustrate the functioning of Pāṇini's grammar. For his contributions to the field, the Government of India awarded him the President's Certificate of Honour in 2014.
