EDWARD SELL

Reverend Edward Sell (1839–1932) was a British Anglican priest, missionary, and Orientalist scholar who spent most of his career in India. Educated at the Church Missionary College in London, he was ordained in 1862 and later served as Canon at St. George's Cathedral, Madras. Sell was a fellow of Madras University and a member of the Royal Asiatic Society, receiving the Kaiser-i-Hind Gold Medal in 1906 for his work. He wrote extensively on Islam from a Christian missionary perspective, aiming to provide a comprehensive account of its beliefs and practices. His notable works include "The Faith of Islam" (1880), which sought to describe the religion as it was practiced in his time.
