E. H. Whinfield (1836–1922) was a notable translator of Persian literature. He is particularly recognized for producing some of the first well-commented English translations of works by prominent Persian poets such as Hafez and Rumi. His significant contributions include the translation of Masnavi i Ma'navi: The Spiritual Couplets of Maulana Jalalu-'d-Din Muhammad i Rumi (often referred to as The Mathnawi), and a translation of 500 quatrains from the Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám.
