Dr. A. N. Upadhye

Dr. A. N. Upadhye (1906–1975), born Adinath Neminath Upadhye, was a preeminent Indian scholar of Prakrit studies and Jain literature in the 20th century. He served as a professor of Ardhamāgadhī at Rajaram College, Kolhapur, for nearly three decades and later became the founding Professor of Jainology and Prakrits at Mysore University. A prolific writer and researcher, Dr. Upadhye obtained his D.Litt. from Bombay University in 1939 and is celebrated for his critical editions of numerous unpublished Sanskrit and Prakrit works. He was also the president of the 46th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in 1967. His scholarship is exemplified in his work on Rama Panivasa's Kamsavaho (A Prakrit Poem in Classical Style).
