Dominic Goodall is a distinguished Sanskritist and historian of religion, widely recognized for his expertise in Shaivism and Tantric traditions. He studied Greek, Latin, and Sanskrit at Oxford and medieval Tamil in Hamburg, earning his doctorate from Oxford under the guidance of Professor Alexis Sanderson. Goodall is a professor at the École française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO) and has served as Head of its Pondicherry Centre. His scholarly work includes critical editions and annotated translations of previously unpublished Śaiva scriptures and theological commentaries. He co-edits the Viennese dictionary of Tantric terminology, the Tāntrikābhidhānakośa, and is responsible for cataloguing the UNESCO Memory of the World collection of Śaiva Manuscripts of Pondicherry. Goodall's significant contributions include The Niśvāsa Tattva Saṃhitā: The Earliest Surviving Śaiva Tantra, which offers a critical edition and annotated translation of its Mūlasūtra, Uttarasūtra, and Nayasūtra sections.
