Devanoora Mahadeva

Devanoora Mahadeva

Devanoora Mahadeva is one of the most significant voices in contemporary Kannada literature. His novel Kusumabale, first published in 1988 and translated into English by Susan Daniel for Oxford University Press in 2015, won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1990. Blending folk tale, oral tradition, and poetic prose, the novel portrays the harsh realities of Dalit life under feudal structures in rural Karnataka.
