Crispin Branfoot

Crispin Branfoot is a scholar of South Asian art and archaeology, with a particular focus on the art and architecture of temples in southern India. He is a Reader in the History of South Asian Art and Archaeology at SOAS, University of London. As the editor of PORTRAITURE IN SOUTH ASIA SINCE THE MUGHALS, he compiles a collection of studies from leading scholars that explore the emergence and function of portraiture in the region. The volume examines how portraits in painting, sculpture, and other media served aesthetic, social, and political purposes from the Mughal empire through the colonial era and beyond.
