Chinmoy Guha

Chinmoy Guha (born September 1958) is an Indian academic, essayist, translator, and scholar specializing in French language and literature, currently serving as Professor Emeritus at the University of Calcutta. A prominent figure in Bengali and English literary studies, he has authored and translated over 20 books, bridging Indo-French cultural connections. His significant works include "Where the Dreams Cross: T.S. Eliot and French Poetry" and "Bridging East and West: Rabindranath Tagore and Writers of France." Guha is also recognized for his translations of French authors such as La Rochefoucauld, Flaubert, and Gide into Bengali. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award in Bengali in 2019 for his essay collection Ghumer Darja Thele, and has been knighted by the French government. In The Tower and The Sea: Romain Rolland and Kalidas Nag Correspondence (1922-1938), he presents a critical edition of the intellectual exchanges between the French Nobel laureate and the Indian art historian.
