Burkhard Schnepel

Burkhard Schnepel is Professor of Social Anthropology at Martin Luther University, Halle, Germany, whose research centres on political rituals in India — particularly Orissa — and the history of the Indian Ocean world. In The King's Three Bodies he brings together essays on royal ritual from India, East Africa, and Renaissance France, engaging with Ernst Kantorowicz's classic study of medieval political theology and extending its framework across cultures.
