Birinchi Kumar Barua

Birinchi Kumar Barua (10 November 1908 – 30 March 1964) was a folklorist, novelist, playwright, historian, linguist, and educationist who was one of the founders of Gauhati University and a pioneer in the study of folklore in Northeast India. He was posthumously awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1964 for his work Asamar Lok Sanskriti. His History of Assamese Literature, published by Sahitya Akademi, traces the development of Assamese literature from ancient times to the modern era and has been republished in multiple editions.
