Bhatt Mathuranath Shastri

Bhatt Mathuranath Shastri (1889–1964) was an eminent Indian Sanskrit scholar, poet, philosopher, grammarian, polyglot, and expert in Tantra from Jaipur, Rajasthan. He was a prominent Sanskrit writer of the twentieth century, known for pioneering new genres in Sanskrit literature such as radio plays, essays, travelogues, and short stories. Shastri composed many songs in Sanskrit, including Ghazals, Thumris, Dadras, and Dhrupads, and innovated by using Prakrit (Braja and Hindi) meters in Sanskrit poetry. He taught Sanskrit at Maharaja College in Jaipur and Maharaja Sanskrit College, where he also served as the Head of the Literature Department. His work, गीर्वाणगिरा - गौरवम् (Geervana Gira Gauravam), is a contribution to Sanskrit criticism.
