B. V. Subbarayappa (1925–2014) was a distinguished Indian historian and philosopher of science, known for his pioneering work on India's scientific traditions. With a background in chemistry, he held significant positions including Executive Secretary of the Indian National Science Academy and Project Coordinator for the National Commission for the History of Science in India. He also served as the elected president of the History of Science division of the International Union of History and Philosophy of Science. Subbarayappa authored and edited numerous works that are central to the study of India's scientific history, including "Chemistry and Chemical Techniques in India" and "Medicine and Life Sciences in India," which examine the origins, ramifications, and achievements in traditional Indian sciences.
