Arthur J. Arberry

Arthur J. Arberry (1905–1969) was a renowned British orientalist and a leading scholar of Arabic and Persian literature, Islamic studies, and Sufism. A professor at Cambridge University, he published nearly ninety books, including translations of Rumi and Hafez. His English translation, The Koran Interpreted, is highly regarded in academic circles. In Notes on Iqbal's Asrar-e-Khudi, Arberry provides commentary on the foundational philosophical poem by the celebrated poet-philosopher Muhammad Iqbal, exploring its themes of selfhood and individualism.
