Arthur Anthony Macdonell

Arthur Anthony Macdonell (1854–1930) was an Indian-born British linguist and Sanskrit scholar who served as the Boden Professor of Sanskrit at Oxford University. Educated at Göttingen University and Corpus Christi College, Oxford, he dedicated his career to Indology. Macdonell edited various Sanskrit texts, authored grammars, and published significant works on Vedic mythology and the history of Sanskrit literature. His notable contributions include A Sanskrit Grammar for Beginners, Vedic Mythology, and A History of Sanskrit Literature. His work, A Practical Sanskrit Dictionary, provides a comprehensive resource with transliteration, accentuation, and etymological analysis.
