Anita Agnihotri

Anita Agnihotri is one of contemporary Bengali literature's most prolific voices, having authored more than fifty books of fiction, poetry, and essays over four decades. She served as a senior IAS officer, retiring in 2016 as Secretary to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and earlier wrote for Satyajit Ray's children's magazine Sandesh. A Day in the Life of Mangal Taram, translated by Rani Ray and published by Niyogi Books, gathers fourteen selected stories from her corpus, featuring characters from tribal and marginalised communities of Central India. She is a recipient of the Sarat Puraskar and the Bhuban Mohini Dasi Gold Medal from the University of Calcutta.
