Amrit Rai

Amrit Rai (1921–1996) was an Indian novelist, poet, and critic, and the son of Munshi Premchand, the foundational figure of modern Hindi and Urdu fiction. His biography Premchand: Kalam ka Sipahi (1962) won the Sahitya Akademi Award for 1963 and has been widely recognised as the authoritative account of his father's life. Rai also authored the seminal linguistic study A House Divided: The Origin and Development of Hindi/Urdu.
