Adoor Gopalakrishnan (born 1941) is an internationally acclaimed Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer, predominantly working in Malayalam cinema, and is recognized as a pioneer of the 'new wave' movement in Malayalam cinema. Over his career spanning more than five decades, he has directed 12 feature films and numerous documentaries, with his works often exploring the society and culture of Kerala. Gopalakrishnan has received extensive honors, including 16 National Film Awards, 17 Kerala State Film Awards, the Padma Shri (1984), Padma Vibhushan (2006), and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (2004) for his invaluable contributions to Indian cinema. He is also the author of books on cinema, including 'The World of Cinema,' for which he won a national award in 1983. His reflections on filmmaking are captured in works such as சினிமா அனுபவம் (Cinema Anupavam) in Tamil and സിനിമായുട് ലോകം (Cinemayute Lokam) in Malayalam.
