A. M. Ghatage was a distinguished linguist and lexicographer known for his comprehensive work on Indian languages. He is celebrated for his "A Comprehensive and Critical Dictionary of The Prakrit Languages with Special Reference to Jain Literature," a multi-volume set that includes transliteration. Ghatage also conducted significant research in phonetics and morphology, as evidenced by his studies on "Phonemic and Morphemic Frequencies in Hindi" and "Phonemic and Morphemic Frequency Count in Malayalam."
